Man! What a year 2017 was. Rebuilding after missing 2016 to cancer treatment was the big goal of the year and I did alright. Not 2015 alright but alright.
There was a lot of diversifying: I took commissions, did concept art, designed patches, and did consulting for an ad agency. All while still hustlin' storyboards which are my realest passion. If only X-Men: Gifted had stayed in town. That was loads of fun!
Online meetings broadened my reach this year. I'm not locked into only my local market anymore. That's huge with the way the state has been backing away from encouraging production from coming to Texas. I could go on about that issue but I'm staying optimistic that working remotely/online can overcome that problem.
I feel good about the way things can go in 2018. I'm already working a concept job and there's a good chance this client will become a monthly gig (expectations managed but they worked me a couple times last year and they're the real deal).
In the meantime, I'll keep plugging. Staying in contact with regular clients and hunting up new ones, widening my skill-set all the while so I can take on newer, more challenging jobs.
